Learn color planning, fairisle strand & tension management, and chart reading

“Anthology” Fairisle Hat or Cowl

Learn all about Fair Isle and stranded knitting from start to finish!  This class covers choosing yarns and planning colors and charts, managing multiple strands, and reading charts, all the way through to finishing and blocking.  Choose your own charts, making this project as easy or as fancy as you want!

Instructor:            Jax Lewis

Skill Level:           Intermediate knitters who have mastered the required skills listed below through Advanced Knitters.

Class:                   Total of 6 hours of instruction over 3 days          

Monday Afternoons from 4:00pm to 6:00pm

      September 9th, September 16th, and September 23rd, 2024

Class Format:      In Person

Cost:                     $65.00

Class Size:           Maximum of 8 Students

                              Minimum of 3 Students required to run the class

Skills Required: 

·        Confident cast on, knit & purl stitch

·        Confident with knitting in the round

·        At least 16 years of age – for younger students please contact us

Skills Learned:

·        Color planning

·        Stranded colorwork technique

·        Strand management

·        Chart reading

·        Tension management

Required Materials Not Included in Class Fee: 

 We ask that you purchase your patterns directly from the designer, so they receive full credit and payment, and bring a printed copy to class.

We are a small business and require you purchase your class yarn from Finnegan's Run, at a 10% discount*.  Other required class supplies may also be purchased at a 10% discount*. 


       Bring a printed pattern, single sided, in color

       Choose Hat or Cowl to make


       We plan to choose our yarn during our first class as we talk about color planning as well as do a swatch.  You will have your choice of using DK or worsted weight yarn.

       You can choose your yarn ahead of time if you prefer

       Both worsted & DK will take 50 grams of the main color and 50 grams each of two or more colors

       Sample in shop (2nd photo - gray, gold, white cowl) was knit with West Yorkshire Spinners Fleece DK


       DK: US 4 & US 6 – 24inch circular for cowl OR 16 inch circular and DPNs for hat

       Worsted: US 6 & US 8 – 24inch circular for cowl or 16 inch circular and DPBS for hat


       Colored pencils (optional but highly recommended)

       Scissors for cutting paper

       Darning or tapestry needle

       Stitch Markers

Our goal at Finnegan’s is to help enrich every student’s passion for knitting and crocheting by expanding skills, understanding new techniques, and creating beautiful projects.  We offer small class sizes to ensure that every student gets the help they require.  We want everyone to go home feeling confident and successful in the new skills learned.

Required Skills Policy

Please pay special attention to the prerequisites that are listed on each class sheet.  Carefully read the skills that are required for each class prior to signing up.  Each class is designed to teach a specific technique(s) and not necessarily the skills required to perform the technique.  The dedicated class time does not account for teaching the skills on the required skills list.  If you have any questions, please contact us and together we will make sure you are ready to get the most out of class.

Materials Policy

We are a small business and require you to purchase your class yarn from Finnegan’s Run. 

Class Size Policy

“Learn to” and “First Project” Classes will run without a required class size.  All other classes will have a required minimum class size.  The minimum class size will be listed in the class description “Class Size.”  If this class size is not met by three (3) days before the class start date we will cancel the class, notify the students, and issue a refund. 

Refund Policy

Refunds for Prepaid Classes can only be made if we are notified at least two (2) weeks in advance of the first class date. Missed Classes will not be made up unless the Instructor is unable to teach or the shop is closed for inclement weather. No refunds for missed classes.

Discount Policy

Rewards and promotional discounts cannot be used on the purchase of classes, in other words it does not apply to class instruction fees.  ALL IN-STOCK CLASS SUPPLIES ELIGIBLE FOR 10% DISCOUNT* Excludes special orders, trunk shows, loom rentals, loom purchases
