 First Project Series

Learn to knit basic lace, cables, in-the-round, & textured stitches

Basic Stitches Cowl

This class is designed specifically for new knitters coming out of a Learn to Knit class and are looking for a first project to grow their skills.  Worked in the round, students will learn a variety of stitches to create a beautiful textured cowl.  Students may choose to use worsted weight yarn or DK weight.

Instructor:            Jax  Lewis

Skill Level:           Beginner knitters who have mastered the required skills listed up through advanced knitters

Class:                   Total of 6 hours of instruction over 3 days          

                              Thursday Evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

                              January 11th, 25th, February 8th

Class Format:      In Person

Class Size:           Max 6 Students

Skills Required:

  • Confident in casting on
  • Confident in knit and purl stitch
  • Familiar with bind off
  • 16 years of age or older
    • For younger students, please contact us.

  • Reading a pattern
  • Knitting in the round
  • Using stitch markers
  • Cabling
  • Lace – yarn over, knit 2 together, slip slip knit

Required Materials Not Included in Class Fee:

We ask that you purchase your patterns directly from the designer, so they receive full credit and payment, and bring a printed copy to class.

  • CHOOSE Worsted weight or DK weight
    • Worsted Weight Cowl
      • Yarn: 100 grams worsted weight yarn, about 220 yards
        • Suggested: Quince & Co Lark or Owl, Berroco Vintage or Lanus
      • Needle: 24 inch circulars in size US6 and US8
    • DK Weight Cowl
      • Yarn: 100 grams of DK weight yarn, about 275 yards
        • Sample knit in: Manos Del Uruguay Sami
        • Other suggested: Berroco Vintage DK or Lanus Light
      • Needle: 24 inch circulars in US5 and US7
    • Cable Needle
    • Stitch Markers
    • Darning Needle

Our goal at Finnegan’s is to help enrich every student’s passion for knitting and crocheting by expanding skills, understanding new techniques, and creating beautiful projects.  We offer small class sizes to ensure that every student gets the help they require.  We want everyone to go home feeling confident and successful in the new skills learned.

Required Skills Policy

Please pay special attention to the prerequisites that are listed on each class sheet.  Carefully read the skills that are required for each class prior to signing up.  Each class is designed to teach a specific technique(s) and not necessarily the skills required to perform the technique.  The dedicated class time does not account for teaching the skills on the required skills list.  If you have any questions, please contact us and together we will make sure you are ready to get the most out of class.

Class Size Policy

“Learn to” and “First Project” Classes will run without a required class size.  All other classes will have a required minimum class size.  The minimum class size will be listed in the class description “Class Size.”  If this class size is not met by three (3) days before the class start date we will cancel the class, notify the students, and issue a refund. 

Refund Policy

Refunds for Prepaid Classes can only be made if we are notified at least two (2) weeks in advance of the first class date. Missed Classes will not be made up unless the Instructor is unable to teach or the shop is closed for inclement weather. No refunds for missed classes.
