The 2023 Winter Comfort Box

Our Winter Comfort Box Mission is to promote and support small businesses and strengthen our community.  We thank you for your support of small business.

THE ARTIST & ARTWORK

Each year we choose a local artist and their artwork of Fredericksburg as the inspiration.  This year we choose work by Amanda Carter.  We were drawn to the technique she used in her acrylic painting of The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg.  It looked like mosaic tiles, or mosaic color work.  We also love all the rich and varied colors found in the sky, trees, church, and cobblestones.

Amanda Carter has a studio in Liberty Town Arts Workshop.  A fellow fiber lover and knitter, Amanda also quilts and paints.  We thank Amanda for allowing us to use her art as our inspiration.   Please visit Amanda and all the other artists at Liberty Town.  You are sure to find something you love.

The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg is among the oldest in Fredericksburg built in 1806.  If you would like to learn more about the history of the Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg's building CLICK HERE

THE FIBER

We are very excited that Polka Dot Sheep agreed to work with us on curating a three color yarn combination based on the artwork.  Drawn to the sky and trees they dyed a custom colorway exclusive to this box - "Callie's Free Spirit."  It was paired with "Depths" and "Hot Springs" to create a vibrant, comforting combination.  Polka Dot Sheep is owned by Aimee Alexander and located in Whitefish, Montana.   When you fall in love with Polka Dot Sheep yarn, you can find more in store at FInnegan's Run or on the Polka Dot Sheep website HERE.

THE PROJECT BAG

The fabric of the 2023 Winter Comfort Box was printed by Carriage House Printery, a family owned company located in Carroll, Ohio.  You can create custom fabrics with them - using one of their print designs or one of your own.  Learn about the beginnings of Carriage House Printery HERE & more about all  Carriage House Printery offers online HERE.

The bag was sewn by the King George Village Quilters Guild.  This guild is a local non profit where they share their love of quilting with each other and the community.  They do so through sponsoring classes and workshops, making quilts for those in need, and supporting other community organizations with their donations.  You can make donations, purchase raffle tickets for quilts, and learn more about the King George Village Quilters Guild online HERE or with their current brochure HERE.

THE SHAWL

We were honored when two local designers agreed to work with us on shawl patterns.  Each designed a new shawl pattern inspired by the artwork and the yarn, one knit and one crochet.

THE CROCHET SHAWL : "Peace by Piece" designed by Kristin Haes.

THE KNIT SHAWL : "The Happy Wander" designed by Halfknit Studios

Of course you are welcome to use your yarn for any project that you would like.  Click here for a few suggestions as inspiration.
